Classic Twisted Pastry Straws
Now that i have made the Quickest Puff Pastry, it is time to make some delicious pastry with it and making ClassicTwisted Pastry Straws is one of the ways to go. I made a sweet version but it does not have to be sweet, you can make them spicy or with cheese. Whichever version will be just as deletable.
Ingredients
1 completed recipe of Quickest Puff Pastry
1 egg
1 tbsp. water
A pinch of salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup almond meal
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Method:
Watch this videa The Teacher Show and see how Nick Malgieri and Martha Stewart form the straws. On a floured surface, roll 1 completed recipe of Quickest Puff Pastry into a 12-by-18-inch rectangle. Slide onto a pan and refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.
Brush dough with egg beaten with a pinch of salt and water.
Mix the sugar, almond meal and cinnamon and sprinkle over HALF the dough’s surface, then fold dough over topping to form a 12-by-9-inch rectangle
Lightly flour surface and dough; roll dough back into a 12-by-18-inch rectangle. Refrigerate dough, if necessary.
Cut the dough into about 36, 12 inch -by-½-inch strips.
Twist each strip into a corkscrew shape.
Transfer twisted dough strips to parchment-lined jelly-roll pans.
Press the ends of the twisted strips of dough to the edges of the pans. Chill until firm and cold, about 1 hour.
Bake in a 375-degree oven until golden, about 20 minutes.
Remove pan from oven and trim ends.
Halve straws to make 5-inch lengths.
